Richard Dietz Memorial Scholarship

Richard M. “Dick” Dietz was a familiar face at Brookville High School where he taught both Math and Science. When Franklin County High School was built, he moved to the new school and continued his teaching career before retiring in 1999 with 30 years in the field.

Dick attended Batesville High School and graduated in 1962. He went on to Xavier University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in 1966 and then continued at Xavier to get his Master’s Degree in 1968 before beginning as a teacher.

Dick married Mary Jo Navarra on July 5, 1980. The couple has three children, Victoria (Lantz) Dietz-Geiger, Diana (Rocky) Robbins and Michael (Kris) Kelley.

Dick had many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed cars – especially Cadillacs, Indy racing, reading and crossword puzzles. He was a member of Oldenburg Knights of St. John and was the President of the Franklin County Board of Zoning Appeals. He was also a charter member of the Franklin County Community Foundation.

Dick passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2011. As a legacy to him, his family and friends have established the Richard M. Dietz Memorial Scholarship Endowment in the Franklin County Community Foundation. After the fund reaches $5000 and income is available, the scholarship will be awarded annually to a Franklin County High School senior who excels in Math or Science.
