Howard & Ruth Stang Scholarship

Howard and Ruth Stang, born in 1923, loved Brookville and each other. Recently, a scholarship endowment was established in the Franklin County Community Foundation in their names.

Ruth Kremp was born June 6, 1923 to Freda and George Kremp. Howard Stang was born to George and Elizabeth Stang at Young’s Corner shortly after on August 2, 1923. Both grew up in Brookville and met while attending the Lutheran Church. Howard loved working on cars and was the parts manager at Valley Motors. He also enjoyed gardening and farming. Ruth attended business school in Cincinnati and worked in the bookkeeping and processing department at Franklin County National Bank for more than ten years. Following her banking career, Ruth moved to education as the study hall monitor at Brookville High School and after consolidation, at Franklin County High School. She also worked in the bookstore and detention hall. The couple had three children, all who attended college: Mona, Dennis and Tina. In 1980, Howard passed away.

Ruth said she established the scholarship because it is everlasting and will always be a way to help Franklin County students go to college. The scholarship is awarded every year to a Franklin County High School graduate who has a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and who demonstrates financial need.
