Brookville Foundation – James R. Kaffenberger Scholarship

The James R. Kaffenberger Scholarship has been established to honor the female student/athlete who has demonstrated through her high school career a positive attitude and strong work ethic and has demonstrated an aptitude to succeed academically at the college level. In awarding the scholarship the financial need factor will be considered to help make it possible for the selected student/athlete to attend college, and it is not intended that this scholarship be awarded to a female student/athlete who has earned a full room, board and tuition scholarship to the college of her choosing on any other basis.

Mr. Kaffenberger has established the scholarship through the Brookville Foundation, and it is his intent that members of his family and any other donors of a similar intent who so wish, may make additional contributions to the James R-

Kaffenberger Scholarship Fund to honor an outstanding female student/athlete graduating from Franklin County High School. The scholarship will be awarded commencing with the Senior Awards Night in spring, 2004. The Brookville Foundation Scholarship Committee will select the recipient of the scholarship.

Mr. Kaffenberger has been a regional correspondent for THE BROOKVILLE AMERICAN and THE BROOKVILLE DEMOCRAT for the past four plus years, reporting on Franklin County High School sports. Although he covered numerous boys’ events, most of his efforts have been focused on the girls’ athletic program.

Highlights of his reporting have been the October, 2000 first-ever appearance in the girls’ state soccer finals, first-ever Class 3A volleyball sectional championship, first-ever final four girls’ basketball team, first-ever Class 2A softball sectional championship, and in girls’ track watched Amber McMillin set school records in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and 300-meter hurdles.

Mr. Kaffenberger resides in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. His children are Katherine, Mark and Matt.
