Established in 1982 by the estate of Hannah Popper. Miss Popper died on December 2, 1981, as the last surviving Franklin County member of the Popper family. Miss Popper’s father, Ignatius A., had come to this area as an itinerant merchant in the late 1870’s. Finding this area to his liking, he established a clothing store in Brookville in 1878. The store retained the Popper family name for many years.
Hannah Popper taught in Franklin County Schools for 35 years and retired in the late 1940’s. Throughout her life, she maintained an interest in the children of the community. Income from this endowment will provide funding semiannually to Franklin County Middle School for students in need of assistance.
