Brookville Red Men Oshawanee Tribe #220 Endowment for Maple Grove Cemetery

Improved Order of Red Men is America’s oldest fraternal organization. They started as the Sons of Liberty in 1765, and a few years later became the Tammany Society. In 1813, they became The Society of the Red Men and a short time later became the Improved Order of Red Men.

The Red Men is a nationwide organization. The motto of the Red Men is “Freedom, Friendship and Charity”. There are six tribes in Indiana. Oshawanee Tribe #220 got their charter in 1897. Currently, Oshawanee Tribe #220 has 45 members.

Last year, as part of their charitable endeavors, Oshawanee Tribe #220 provided support to the Franklin County 4-H Association, Brookville Town Aquatic Center and the Alzheimer’s Association. Recently, they made the decision to establish the Brookville Red Men Oshawanee Tribe #220 Endowment for Maple Grove Cemetery within the Franklin County Community Foundation. This endowment will provide financial support for the maintenance and beautification of the Maple Grove Cemetery.
